With the closing of the National Defence Air Base in North Bay in the mid nineties and the loss of several thousand jobs, the City of North Bay undertook the creation of an Economic Development Commission to address new investment.
The City retained Kenneth Caplan and Associates Limited to develop a new brand that would contribute to North Bay’s marketability and help to attract IT and “new economy” businesses.
In addition to the brand, we developed and produced an advertising campaign and marketing supplement in conjunction with Canadian Business Magazine. The supplement introduced the new strategy and focus on education to increase the competitiveness of the local labour force.
We subsequently spearheaded the publication of a second marketing supplement that appeared in National Post Business Magazine. It promoted the new optimism of the municipality and reached an audience of more than one million.
